Been out walking in the cold, getting inspired by the random selections from my ipod; saw a beautiful bullfinch and a couple of green woodpeckers and a meadow pipit.

    Labels lyrics
Music - Killing Joke - Lightbringer

Good practice Sunday, played Blue Morning (Labels) for the first time and it sounds great, Mick seemed well chuffed with lyrics and melody. We are starting to record our demo this week.Out of our 8 "finished tracks" we are going for Everburn,Soulrise,Firebelly,Labels and Zodiac - the others (Believe Me,JJ Sun and Hideaway) will go up on the site. Next steps are to type up all my lyrics for our imminent website; contact a student photographer I met the other night who wants to take some shots and finish (The Meek), an experimental three part track I'm working on.

Here's the lyrics for Blue Morning (Labels)

As I look down, you are waiting,

When i come down, there's too much hating,

    All those whispers,patronise,

I am labelled by their eyes.

Chorus - You walk your path,I'll walk mine,

Your judgement shall come down the line,

If life goes in cycles you'll find,

That dreams exist outside your mind.

2nd verse - When I wonder where you are,

You turn my morning blue from afar,

    Vicious labels,evil fables,

It is time now to turn the tables.

Chorus - Mid 8- Double Chorus

Music - Walking With Gods - Killing Joke

    Read - No Irish,No Blacks,No Dogs - John Lydon

Starting work on a track that is called "Meek" at the moment and it's coming out sounding like an hybrid of The Chameleons and Tool with a dash of The Smiths!

Made contact with a Dutch artist who just happens to have created a painting named Soulrise - we may collaborate on some designs - he's interested.Check out the site and leave some feedback here.www.jeroenvanvalkenburg.exto.nl.

If there are any artists out there who would be interested in drawing up my idea for a logo for us (Soulrise) - get in touch - we can't pay you, but you will receive full credit and become part of Soulrise's inner circle of friends and be remembered should any success come our way.

    Soulrise emerge
Been a while since I came here, but , tis now time as the first fruits of our labour are emerging and our 1st gig is under our belts so to speak.Although I was on the verge of a panic attack when we got there; after a couple of pints i settled down and once onstage, didn't wanna leave.God i fucking loved it.We played 6 "songs" at Heppies,Hook, near Goole, which were Everburn,Believe Me,JJ,Hideaway,Soulrise and Soulrise Closure jam, which included snippets of lyrics from Gavin Friday,Stone Roses,Gene Loves Jezebel,The Selecter,Alice Donut,Bob Marley,Danse Society, The Chameleons,Faith No More,Janes Addiction amongst others. There were approx 130 people at the show and received some nice feedbck afterwards; "passion" being the oft used description; main thing learnt is to never rely on a sound engineer to help me get that "delayed vocal sound " that i crave so much, so i'm gonna write my own presets into the user section of the adrenalinn 2 so I'm no longer at the mercy of their ineptitude; though the guy was a nice fella.
Next gig is at Worksop Frog and Nightgown on the 19th of november supporting Stain Machine and another band from Wales I think? the night before we are also gonna play at a pub in Goole (the Northern)? with Damon's band; should be fun; i'll give it my all even if there's only 1 man and his dog there.
In the meantime we're getting together this sunday to edit and rearrange 2 of the 5 tracks we played last weekend and i'll also burn cds off for Bri and Mick of the riffs i've recorded over this past week; a couple are "classics", some are "atmospheric" and some are "tribal stompers".
Must see if i can find an artist to draw up the idea I've come up with for a logo.
also need to chase up info regarding the teaching course that I wanna do this week.
need to start making contacts further afield too for when we hit the road.

    Autumn approaching
Our new band is gelling instantly, sounding somewhere between Killing Joke,QOTSA,Tomahawk and now with me adding atmospheric synth pads a sprinkle of Danse Society, really excited about the material, after only 3 rehearsals we have 7 songs taking shape, I'm spending hours adding synths, finding the "right" sounds and tweaking the filters and envelopes till the hairs on my arms react.Don't like Pauls suggestion of Stain Machine as a name though; I like Tundra or....mmm, must now spend some time coming up with something magical.
Other stuff, really excited about the imminent Virgin Prunes reissues on Mute, they shall always be a part of me, I love you Gavin, Guggi and the boys!
Gigs? Went to see PJ Harvey with Kirsty last week at Nottingham Rock City and she was amazing, like The Birthday Party with Polly on vox; then Saturday someone had the bright idea of queueing all night at Birmingham for the Radio 1 free gig ticket giveaway, which we did, it was a good laugh actually and we were at the front and able to scamper off and avoid the inevitable deluge of outbound traffique - so I get to see my new faves the Departure, Kasabian and The Music for free this Sunday, cheers.
Reece is back at school now so I'm able to resume studio activity at a more productive pace; I'm bursting with enthusiasm and ideas; I must create.

    Bi Polaroid Weather
When was the last time I updated? God , what has been happening, start with the music and see if that jogs my memory, recently,Frank Tovey - worried men in second-hand suits, Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures, JJ72 - live at Rockpalast 2002, Kraftwerk - Trans europe Express, QOTSA - songs for the deaf, Jah Wobble - Rising above Bedlam, Southern Death Cult - same, Interpol - Turn On The Bright Lights, The Fall - A-Sides, PJ Harvey - uh uh her. Right, sorted out the equipment for the recording project, cheques signed and posted, can't believe it's happeneing. New band forming now with Paul, Keith and Bert; my role is varied, guitar, synth and anything else that takes ma fancy; looking for a laptop to run Guitar Rig, and trigger samples. Pigs are coming along great, Keeley's is way smaller than the others but so fucking cute. Buzzard arrived at the farm; enjoyed feeding it and gazing lovingly.Nottingham Forest, 4 games, 4 draws , aaaagh, come on . Got 800 cd cases cheap for my huge stash of illegally obtained muzik via Soulseek, unfortunately I get banned for being greedy; oh come on, it's been like winning a trolley dash in your favourite store, I was just scared it was gonna end; forgive me Lord. Day out at Alton Towers last week and I conquered my fear of heights to go on Oblivion, didn't want Reece Jay to see daddy sham out; it was evil, roll on Florida in November.the weather continues to veer from the depths of dull dead rain blowing shitness to blazing come out and play sunshine from one hour to the next, in psychiatric terms this would be described as a rapid cycling manic depressive, characterised by dysthymic interludes.Back to the gym Monday, leeting things slip this week, always the same after alcohol sodden weekends such as last week, spent the day Paintballing and then had a barbecue that lasted 2 days, I got leathered and put on a Michael Jackson mask and performed all kind of dance moves, beginning with my ever popular Rain Dance ala Ian Astbury 1984, woke the next morning with severely painful hip and mud all up my legs and absolutely no recollection of getting home, must have been the Sambuca, After shock and Vodka shots that followed the Fosters, Kev and Kirsty, you are wonderful friends, cheers.

    Photos and Garnish Stage
Finally, after 3 years of having them on my to do list, I have sent for the 2 photos I desperately needed to garnish my studio, One of Franz Triechler Of Young Gods and one of Steve Rawlings of Danse Society, from the amazing Lindsey Dawn Hammond of Quebec, Canada.Almost there; also bought a lamp from a young designer named Bespke and ordered some exquisite glass frames from her for my other photographs garnered from the 4 corners.Give me a month and my dream studio shall be complete.

Last week when the river ran dry....
Mon- Reece's "Olympics Day 1", wins his running races, mint! Tues - day 2 - Red Team wins the Cup - Reece Jay is ecstatic - quickly drive to Worksop, fit in a sharp rehearsal with Echolalia and then we're off to Mansfield to play a 7 song set at the MIND AGM, goes great, Breeze works especially well, benefitting from the subtlety of the brushed drums; mint! Wed- Spent most of the day catching up on ebay business, wrapping , copying and posting- fucking tiresome! Thurs - Back to the Gym and Reece's hols have begun- out for a bike ride- loving it- Music this week - Morphine - Cure For Pain, House Of Love- Fontana Years, PJ Harvey- Uh Uh Her, Beastie Boys - to the 5 Boroughs. Fri - This morning Peggy the Pot Bellied Pig has given birth to 6 gorgeous piglets, 4 are black, one is Ginger and one is Pink with black patches, I'm buying this one for Keeley! Speaking of whom; she only comes home with the amazing news that our plan to set up a project studio for recording and live performance has been given the go ahead and that I have a £2300 budget, fucking grand. Saturday - helping out on the farm all day as Tom is alone ; fed all the Eagle Owls etc and had a mass cleanse of the Chicken Shed to rid it of a red mite infestation Sun - fundraising day at Local Town Show - raised £150 for the animals, had a good laugh with the family too, 20 people added their name to the list to find a name for our piglet, I picked Jaz instead of my original choice of Maramaduke.

    Lazy Sunday
Picked up a couple of Ride videos at a car boot sale today along with this amazing clock that I cleaned up , got a few ideas for that; scouting Ebay for an exercise bike for Keeley and just lost out on a drive to Bristol to collect it; oh well, was up late last night so I've had a nap this afternoon with Jimi feline; preparing for a busy week and a renewed vow to sort finances before taking out a loan to take my Home Studio to the next level; can't wait , the anticipation is beautiful.

    Fusion or Delusion
Some strange things happening this week, first Bee (Y?, Danse Crazy,Getting The Fear, Into A Circle, Coil, Futon) buys his own record from me on Ebay, then the next day a very rare and very old compilation LP arrives in the post from the US; there's a booklet with it, anyway, I bought this album, the only time I've ever seen one for sale ; because a band called Y? had a track on there, this band featured the godlike Steve Rawlings, Paul Gilmartin and Bee; in the accompanying photo, the photo is of Bee looking out of the photo and upwards; anyway; I look at the next page and the first words I see are my name Mark Saxton; I swear it looks as if Bee is looking right at me (well , my name, ha!), only I don't know who this other Mark Saxton is; he was a drummer for a band around the Sheffield scene around 1980- fockin' weird.
Next day I happen upon Goth Babes after typin Goth into Google and view a few as you do, to see thee most stunning Maiko, tried to find out more and got freaked a little when I saw her web title was maikon_star; my Ebay moniker is maxkonstar and has been for a good few years.Synergy? fuck knows- maybe I'm meeting new friends? but it does make me wonder ......back soon...books to read.
